Arbell (Neal) Lumpkin

Arbell Lumpkin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 My GG-Arbell (Neal) Lumpkin, was born around 1897, in Mississippi (?).  Her father's name was Jim Neal (Neel?).  Jim Neal had three wives, and it's unclear who Arbell's  mother was, but there's some question of  Lettie Neal (Neel?)  being her mother. Arbell's younger sister was Leander (Neal) Turner.
Since I've never seen my granny Katie (Lumpkin) Gutter,
I've added this rose in hopes to one day replace it with a picture of her.
Gibson Family Reunion 2013
The Gibson Reunion was formally founded in New York City
in 1974.  Prior to this reunion, there were many informal reunions held in the
 Bahamas and United States.  The Gibson Family was a founding family of
Savannah Sound Eleuthera before the abolition of slavery.
Rovella
As I sit at my desk, thinking of my mother Rovella, memories come to mind.  She told you what she thought, and no sugar coating came with it, and cussed bigger and better than anyone I had ever known.  Mom did have another side to her, she  loved to work in the community, and often tried to get me to join her to fight for rights of people.  As a teen, I would gaze over her awards and thank-you letters, for all her community activism. I even remember her on local TV, discussing  the unfairness of economically disadvantage neighborhoods.  Yes, mom had friends, but not a lot of close ones.  Her tell it like it is personality, even if it stung, prompted some to shy away from her. One of my last memories of her, was at the nursing home, and a nurses came to check on mom, gave her a hug, some ice cream, and a warm smile, the next thing that came out of mom's mouth, was,  "Baby,  your ass is  just too big, you need to loose some of that!.  "Mom"  I said, "Please be nice."   Yep, mom was a force to reckon with, but, there were times her softer, nicer side came through. Mom loved to give me gifts, but it had to be on her terms, so I learned  never ask her for anything but when she was ready to gift me,  it always warmed my heart.  Below, I've posted a family picture of mom with her first husband Oclad Wesley Sr., and my siblings.
 I wasn't born yet, but my siblings from left to right are;  Leo Victory Wesley (deceased),
  Rovella Gutter (Wesley) (Ransom) deceased,   Rhandy Lanir Wesley (deceased),  Oclad Wesley Sr. (deceased),  Consuella Wesley,  and  Oclad Wesley Jr.
